I can't believe we're this close to our trip to the Vally Isle! I just happened to look at my little ticker below and couldn't believe it! How exciting! The fact that it's already summer is insane to me, too. My whole life, until the end of college, the summer had such a distinct transition because of the end of school. Now it's just like any other time, just hotter! Don't get me wrong though, the weeks have been long lately! Weeks are long and weekends are shorter!
I'm still trying to get myself in shape. I've been working out at the gym, consistently, going on 7 weeks now, but I've only lost 2-3lbs. This could discourage me, but it hasn't! I told myself that it would take 6 weeks for any changes, and here we are! I'm just excited that I'm still motivated. I haven't been in SUCH a long time! Now I just have to keep on keepin' on! Hopefully, at the rate I'm going, I'll have some marked improvements in time for my trip to Maui! Ultimately though, I just want to get back to feeling good and wearing a size that pleases me. And, if we can ever manage to get pregnant, all the better to be fit during a pregnancy!
It's been interesting getting back into the gym scene. I see the same people day in and day out, and we're all doing the same ole' things. I have certain criteria that must be in place for a good workout, quirks if you will... like music - it's an absolute must! A towel is also a must. Without one I feel "naked" in the gym, haha. Of course, a bottle of water... how do people go in there without one?!!! And I'm realllly getting particular about my clothes' tags and seams... I've pretty much cut the tags out of everything I own! I'm just weird like that! Haha, enough about the gym.
Time to go back to work!
Never explain- your friends do not need it and your enemies will not believe you anyway. - Elbert Hubbard
I think our society is all about excuses these days. Perhaps it's a "people-pleaser" characteristic that we have... a defense to maintain whatever integrity we think or hope we possess. "I was going to, but...... I just haven't had time.... I'm too busy... there's a lot going on..." I'll be the first to admit that I'm so guilty of this day in and day out. When I'm running late to work in the morning, I'm already thinking of an explanation to give if asked by a co-worker. Even if my reason is spilling coffee on myself in the car, (who hasn't had that one happen?!) I'm still nervous about my presentation! It's because there's no such thing as a "good" excuse. When I haven't spoken to a friend in a time period that clarifies as "too long," I've got my excuses lined up, knowing good and well all of them are terrible! There's never a good enough excuse for letting time pass between two people! It's life - things happen - we make choices. Why run on and on trying to smooth it over? You can't. The distance is already there. The beauty of a true friend is that he or she knows you're full of crap and doesn't let it get in the way. She doesn't consume herself or use the time you do have to discuss it. You just pick up where you left off.
I suppose the best thing to do is accept your choices, make the most of it, and move on. Morgan, did you get all that? ;)
"If you ever start feeling like you have the goofiest, craziest, most dysfunctional family in the world, all you have to do is go to a state fair. Because five minutes at the fair, you'll be going, 'you know, we're alright. We are dang near royalty."- Jeff Foxworthy
LOL! I always thought I had a weird family... until I went to college. Compared to most everyone I met, I was raised in one heck of a home! And I truly was. My parents got divorced when I was in 6th grade and got back together/re-married at the end of my 7th grade year. Does that really happen anywhere? This makes them truly unusual and completely marvelous at the same time! As I've gotten older I've really come to appreciate everything my parents did for us growing up. I had a supportive, 'give it your best shot' upbringing, and it's made such a difference in my life. There was always someone around to talk to, throw a ball, jump on the trampoline, watch TV, help me study, listen to me play my clarinet (what good sports they were!)... I thought I never had anything, but I always had something. We take it for granted in those teen years, but ultimately, I think the time our families give us is the most precious thing in the world. Even in the midst of our most dramatic moments, I'm thankful for these people who claim me wholeheartedly, the way I claim them.
I get to see my family this weekend - always an exciting time for me! I went down to Fitzgerald about 3 weeks ago for two of my soon to be sister-in-law's wedding showers. This weekend it's a bridesmaids luncheon. I must say, I've had some serious feelings about my brother getting married again, but that last trip down was such a blessing. I felt like everything clicked... like ALL of us just finally clicked... a really good thing. Anyhoo, my brother's wedding is at the end of June, so I'll be going down then, too. Lots of trips to hot south GA! My husband gave me a lecture on the cost of gas this past week, but of course, I turned a deaf ear... few things can keep me from my goofy, crazy, dysfunctional bunch!
